Hello, my name is Barack Obama, and I am the Forty-fourth of the United States. I was elected to my first term in 2008, defeating Republican John McCain, becoming the first African American president. I was reelected as president in 2012, defeating Republican candidate Mitt Romney by winning 332 Electors with 51% of the popular vote (CNN). Thank you to those who voted for me.

I am a Democrat from Chicago, Illinois. I went to college at Harvard for my law degree, becoming president of the Harvard Law Review. In doing this, I became the first African American to become president. After my degree, I went back to Chicago, teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago. After a few years, I became a Illinois State Senator, where I created the first major ethics reform in Illinois in two decades. Shortly after becoming a State Senator, I became a United States Senator, representing the people of Illinois. There, I pushed tougher lobbying rules, locked up dangerous weapons, and make the government more transparent (White House). During my tenure as President, we have seen landmark reform in healthcare with the creation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as 'Obamacare,' more access to government through the creation of petition.gov, and other landmark cases.

I have included a link to a journal published about my reform initiatives in education. As far as text is concerned, I have an older textbook than most of you. On my text, you can find out more about the laws that I changed on pages 5-6, 19, and 519-520.
